Naturopathic Medicine

What is Naturopathic Medicine?

Naturopathic medicine is a form of primary health care which blends modern scientific knowledge with traditional and natural forms of medicine. Its roots are based upon the healing power of nature, and it upholds time-tested strategies that support and stimulate the body’s ability to heal itself. Naturopathic medicine is the art and science of disease diagnosis, treatment and prevention using natural therapies such as: botanical medicine, clinical nutrition, hydrotherapy, homeopathy, naturopathic manipulation, acupuncture, health education and lifestyle counseling.

What is a Naturopathic Doctor?

Licensed naturopathic doctors (N.D.’s) are primary care health professionals who are trained to diagnose and treat disease while promoting health and wellness in their patients. Treatment plans always emphasize the use of therapies which strengthen and support the optimum physiological functions of the body. N.D.’s gather information about a patient through health histories, by performing physical exams, reviewing past medical records and by ordering labwork and diagnostic imaging as needed.

What can Naturopathic Medicine Do for Me?

Naturopathic medicine blends centuries- old natural, non-toxic therapies with current advances in the study of health and human medical sciences.

It can be safely used to treat a broad range of concerns: from pediatric to geriatric, from minor acute to severe chronic illness and from the physical to the psychological.

Naturopathic medicine is beneficial for the following types of patients:

• Patients that are looking for disease prevention and health promotion strategies.

• Patients who have a range of symptoms that they have been unable to address on their own or with the help of other medical practitioners.

• Patients that have been diagnosed with an illness, often serious or chronic, and are looking for complementary treatments. Naturopathic medicine is very effective in improving quality of life for those with serious and life threatening illnesses.

• Patients who are looking to combine conventional and naturopathic treatments with the aim of optimizing health, recovery, and reducing pain while minimizing side effects to medications, surgery and other conventional treatments.
